Brandon Cole Margera was born on September 28, 1979 to his parents April and Phil. He was given the nickname 'Bam Bam' by his grandfather because he was always running into walls. By the age of ten, Bam had decided that he was going to be a professional skateboarder and a stunt man. His parents were very supportive. They began to take him all over for skating events. In his early teens, he was signed by Fairman's Skateshop in his home town of West Chester, PA. Around this time he had also come into pro status.

Other then skating, Bam spent a lot of his time with his friends shooting pranks, skits, and stunts and editing them along with skate footage into what is now known as the cKy video series. 'Landspeed Wheels' (a skateboarding company) presented the first in the series, Landspeed presents: cKy. The video was released in early 1999. With the success of the first one, Bam and his friend Brandon Dicamillo produced the second, cKy2K which was released in 2000. Bam and Brandon realized that not only skaters were enjoying the videos. People that knew nothing about skating were enjoying the stunts and the skits.

Around the time Bam had released the first cKy, he had met Johnny Knoxville. Knoxville was trying to piece together TV show involving stunts. Bam and his group of friends, known as the cKy Crew were signed to the first season of Jackass. With the success of Jackass, Bam released cKy 3 in 2001 and then cKy 4: the Latest and the Greatest. After Jackass: the Movie Bam was given his own spinoff of the hit TV show. It was to be a reality show staring him, the cKy Crew, his parents, and his uncle; Don Vito. The show was called Viva la Bam and it ran for five seasons quickly becoming MTV's quickest selling DVD seasons.

Bam was single for about a year and half before he began seeing his child hood sweet heart, Melissa 'Missy' Rothstein. The pair dated for two years before becoming engaged at the King of Prussia Mall. MTV pitched Bam the idea for a spinoff of Viva la Bam entitled Bam's Unholy Union.
